This is a fun project for children. Position them so that they can watch without being too close to the stove. Be sure to watch them closely while they are watching the cranberries pop.

1 pound (4 cups) fresh cranberries
1 ½ cups sugar
2 cups water

In a large pan, boil sugar and water together 5 minutes. Add washed cranberries and boil without stirring until all the skins pop open, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. That’s all there is to it, unless you want a smoother sauce. After it cools a bit, you can put it in the blender or run it through a sieve. Store in refrigerator.
